Q:

WLAN Settings

A:

Instead of a wired connection via the cradle you can also access the network wireless. Under START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL you will find a utility to configure WLAN. The settings will be saved in a configuration file. If your device is running Windows Mobile, you can find the same settings at START, SETTINGS, CONNECTIONS. We strongly recommend using WLAN Settings.

Alternatively you can use the Windows ® Zero Configuration. But it offers less options and the settings will not be saved to a configuration file. Please do not use both configurations concurrently. On request you can get a sample program from CASIO to check the signal strength out of your own program.

Q:

MAC Address

A:

The pre-installed NetSearch application displays detailed information about the WLAN connection. Among others you find the MAC of your IT-800 beneath "Physical address". Please make sure that WLAN power is enabled in order to use that utility. Under Windows Embedded CE you can launch it from START -> PROGRAMS -> COMMUNICATION, under Windows Mobile it is located in the programs folder.

From within your own application, you can call "GetAdaptersInfo" from Win32 API to get both IP and MAC address.

Q:

Proxy & Windows Mobile

A:

If you want to access the Internet through your corporate WLAN and you need to configure proxy settings, you cannot use the WLAN Settings utility under Window Mobile. Use the Windows Zero Configuration instead.
First, go to START, SETTINGS, CONNECTIONS, and activate "WLAN Power" (do not use "WLAN Settings"). Then, open "Connections". Select "Set up my proxy server" under "My Work Network". Place a checkmark into both boxes and tap on [Advanced].

Tap on "HTTP" to open the settings for the HTTP Proxy. Enter IP address and port number of your server. Make additional settings if necessary. Confirm all your setttings by pressing 4 times [ok].

Open "Wi-Fi", and make the settings for WLAN. Select "Add New..." to create a new entry. Enter the SSID of your WLAN as network name. Important: Select "Work" beneath "Connects to". Do not use "The Internet". Press [Next].

In the next step configure the network authentication. In the sample below we used WPA-PSK, but that might differ from your actual requirements. Press [Next], and then [Finish].

You are ready now to access the Internet through the Internet Explorer. Please, bear in mind that you must not use the WLAN Settings utility. It does not support proxy settings and always creates a configuration file that has a higher priority than the Windows Zero Configuration. If such a configuration file already exists, you must delete it in oder to enable the proxy settings.
