Q:

Memory

A:

The memory on the mobile device is divided Flash-ROM and RAM. The operating system and pre-installed applications are stored write-protected in the ROM (OS Disk). Besides that there is an area for the file system in the ROM, in which the user can save programs and files (User Disk). On IT-9000, the User Disk is separated into Root Disk (-> e.g. Windows, Program Files, My Documents, etc.) and Flash Disk (-> FlashDisk folder). You can install your applications to both Root Disk and Flash Disk. However, service packs and patches should always be installed to the Root Disk (default).
After the system start, parts of the operating system are kept in the RAM. The rest (Program Memory) is available to run programs. As a backup battery protects the RAM for up to 10 minutes, you can change the main battery without rebooting the device.
In order to check current memory consumption, you can go to START, SETTINGS, SYSTEM, MEMORY, where "Storage" represents the Root Disk, "FlashDisk" the Flash Disk, and "Program" the RAM.

A:

You can allocate more program memory for your own application by exiting all other applications that are not necessary. Do not forget to check the shortcuts at \Windows\StartUp that will launch applications automatically after every reset. For devices running Windows Mobile, we would like to draw your attention to the items of the today screen. You can disable those items at START, SETTINGS, TODAY.

Q:

Backup

A:

Since the contents of the user disk also remains without battery, a protection of your installation usually will not be necessary like before under Windows CE 4.1 or 5.0. For generating or reading a back up file use the Backup Tool from the Start menu (Windows Embedded CE: START -> PROGRAMS -> UTILITY). In this context please pay attention to the configuration files for the scanner and WLAN in the FLASHDISK folder. Those file are not part of a backup file and must be saved separately.

Q:

Setup

A:

For installation of CAB files we recommend using our "CAB FILE Automatic Setup Tool". Among other features you can easily install Service Pack, Patches, and your own application from SD-Card without the need for a soft reset operation after each single file.
Remarks: CAB files won't be deleted automatically, if you set the file attribute to "read only".
